Format Conversion: Spending Numbers Into a Story
L2The following is one office worker's monthly spending over the first half of the year. January $1,800, February $1,750, March $2,400, April $1,850, May $1,800, June $3,350.
Convert these numbers into a 'short story.' It must be a 3-to-6-sentence story with a protagonist, the passage of time, and events. Conditions: (1) The flow of the six months (stable → surge → return → an even bigger surge) must stay intact in the story's structure, and the size relationships (June is greater than March) must not be distorted. (2) Use at least one of the story form's strengths (causation, emotion, foreshadowing, etc.). (3) End with one line: what became visible—that the table couldn't show—once you turned the numbers into a story.
